JOSEMARÍA ESCRIVÁ

CENTENARY OF HIS BIRTH

Anyone over 18 with a vocation from God can become a member of Opus Dei.

Members include young and old, married and single, male and female, rich and poor, lay people and priests. Men and women are roughly equal in number. The majority of the members are married and live with their families.

All members lead ordinary lives and therefore there is no common feature other than their Catholic faith and a desire to strive for holiness in and through their daily life.

The spirituality of Saint Josemaría has helped me discover that God is hidden in the ordinary things of each day and that the extraordinary is in the ordinary.”

Judy Bates, lecturer

Work can be seen as a

drudgery, but Saint Josemaría has taught me otherwise. When you realise that every task you perform is an opportunity to serve God and other people, it becomes an integral and fulfilling part of your whole life. Even com-muting can be made meaningful in this way!”

Adam Walker, actuary

I had the opportunity of speaking directly to Saint Josemaría and told him that my husband did not believe. He advised me to love him much more and to leave him alone, to be pious without being sanctimonious, and to be very feminine. From that day forward our marriage changed completely for the better.”

Maureen Cash, retired

Saint Escrivá’s words have not only helped me live my faith, deepening my knowledge and love for God, family and friends, but they have also led me to change my attitude towards study, work and people. My attitude was transformed when I read The Way. I learned that study can be offered up to God and is a means of helping other people as well.”

Carol Pascual, Personnel Officer

In the running of my business Saint Josemaría has taught me to treat my employees and customers with care and affection, always prepared to go that extra mile for them.
